Holywell Farm approach, north of Wolsingham
Baal Hill Wood is an ancient woodland reached on foot from the Holywell Farm approach outside Wolsingham. The Wildlife Trust names Wood Warbler, Redstart and Pied Flycatcher among its woodland birds, alongside Woodcock and Buzzard. Oak and birch dominate parts of the wood, while the veteran Bishop’s Oak adds interest to a longer woodland walk. Bird watching here depends on listening and looking along the public paths rather than a hide or feeding station. The approach crosses a farmer’s field before entering the south-eastern woodland boundary, so allow time for the walk in.
