South-west Sheffield, off Hathersage Road
Blacka Moor brings woodland, heath and wet ground together on Sheffield's south-western edge. Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust names Cuckoo, Wheatear and Pied Flycatcher among its migrant birds, recommending spring and summer for that part of the reserve's wildlife. An extensive public-rights-of-way network lets visitors choose between wooded slopes and the transition towards open moorland. The terrain is steep in places and can be wet or boggy, making it a walking visit rather than a drive-up viewpoint. Stay on established routes, keep dogs on leads and give grazing livestock and ground-nesting birds space.
