Shefford Road, Beadlow, near Clophill

Clophill Lakes is a public nature reserve developed from a former Fuller’s Earth quarry in the Flit Valley. Lakes, wet margins, grassland and young woodland provide several habitats within a circular walking visit. An RSPB local group report from April 2026 recorded Kingfisher, Sedge Warbler and Sand Martin here, among a wider list of birds seen or heard. Those are dated observations rather than guaranteed annual targets. The operator now provides a visitor centre, café, toilets and managed car park, making the public entrance the useful starting point for exploring the permitted paths.

Getting there: Arrive at the main Shefford Road entrance, following the operator’s name-based directions because similar postcodes can lead elsewhere. The pin is the county bird club’s published car park meeting point. Check daily closing time and leave the reserve before the gates are locked; the operator’s current visitor page takes priority over older guides.
