Stretham Road, Wicken
Kingfishers Bridge combines created reedbeds, open water and grassland beside the Cam corridor. The reserve operator names Bearded Tit and Reed Warbler among its reedbed birds, with Wigeon visiting between October and March. Public hides and viewing points provide authorised places to watch without entering the wildlife sanctuary. The site is open during daylight, subject to management closures. Plan around the published annual closure days as well as seasonal restrictions, rather than assuming that the permissive routes are available every day.
When to go and where to look
October to March is the clearest window for Kingfishers Bridge’s winter Wigeon gathering, which the operator says can exceed a thousand birds. Watch the grassland feeding areas and lake from the authorised hides and viewing points. The created reedbeds add Bearded Tit interest, with breeding Reed Warbler and other warblers providing a different summer focus. Stay on marked permissive paths and respect controlled areas during the breeding season. Access is during daylight and management work can close the reserve. Check the published annual closure days before travelling, then use the visitor-centre information to choose the open watching route.
