Hall Lane, Bolton

Moses Gate’s former mill lodges provide a wetland birdwatching stop within the much larger country park. The Wildlife Trust describes it as Bolton’s largest nature reserve and specifically names Mute Swan, Tufted Duck, Great Crested Grebe and Water Rail at the Crompton Lodges, with Common Tern in summer. Concentrate a short visit around the lodges rather than treating all the park’s recreational ground as equally useful bird habitat. The Hall Lane car park gives a public arrival, and the Trust describes the paths around the lodges as accessible for all.

Getting there: Arrive from Hall Lane and follow the signs towards the Crompton Lodges. The map marker is an independently queried park-area point, not a surveyed entrance. Keep the birdwatching circuit focused on the lodges and their established paths.
