Glynde, near Lewes · BN8 6SX

Mount Caburn rises above Glynde with chalk grassland that rewards a walk at an unhurried pace. Skylark and Meadow Pipit draw attention to the open hillside, while Yellowhammer adds interest around scrub and boundaries. Natural England also names Corn Bunting and raptors, but the site is best approached as a landscape to explore rather than a guaranteed species list. The climb matters when choosing footwear and deciding how long to stay. Combining the village approach with pauses on the slope gives time to notice both the birds and the grassland. Keep the return route in mind before committing to a longer walk.
