Rhosili village and public headland paths, Gower

Rhosili’s public headland paths and The Vile’s field margins provide a coastal birding walk from the National Trust village arrival. A Gower Ornithological Society walk report posted in September 2026 recorded Chough, Kestrel and Linnet along this named headland-and-field route. These are dated observations, not a promise of the same birds on every visit. Watch from the public paths and short turf without searching cliff faces for nests. This entry keeps the visit on the mainland; the tidal crossing to Worms Head needs a separate plan and is not required to enjoy the described route.

When to go and where to look

The National Trust specifically recommends looking for Chough along the grassy mainland headland near its shop and the Old Coastguard Lookout. Its route guide also names the bird on the walk returning through the Vile, so this is more than an isolated sighting from the September club report. No precise bird season is supplied; check current conditions and follow the public headland paths, keeping clear of cliff edges and nesting cover. The longer circuit includes uneven ground and steps. You do not need the tidal crossing to Worm’s Head for this plan: that is a separate undertaking requiring its own tide assessment.
