Malvern Road or Troopers Hill Road public approach, St George

Troopers Hill protects an unusual acid-soil landscape above the Avon, with heath, scrub and wooded edges around its former industrial ground. The council’s 2007 management plan names Green Woodpecker, Long-tailed Tit and Bullfinch among regularly present scrub-and-tree birds; these are dated source records rather than a current sighting report. Use an established public path for a modest listening walk, without searching out breeding locations. Malvern Road gives the easier approach to the upper path. Other routes involve steep steps, unsurfaced ground and cliff edges, so the hill is not an easy-access circuit throughout.
