Yarmouth

The northern Western Yar offers estuary watching close to Yarmouth, using the riverside paths and former railway route towards Thorley Road. Wigeon, Teal and Redshank are among the winter birds named by the island bird group. This entry covers the Yarmouth estuary and adjacent wetland views, separately from Afton Marsh at Freshwater. Start with a short riverside section rather than assuming the whole estuary circuit is needed. The bird group notes that reeds currently restrict views of Station Ponds, so keep expectations focused on the public estuary viewpoints and the conditions on the day.
