Cattawade Marshes can be watched from the public riverside path between Manningtree and Flatford. The wet grazing land lies between arms of the River Stour, providing feeding habitat for birds including Oystercatcher, Redshank and Lapwing. Winter adds Teal, Wigeon and Dark-bellied Brent Geese. The reserve itself is closed to public entry, so the visit follows the south-bank right of way with views across the water and marsh. It is a useful car-free birdwatching walk from Manningtree station, with the option of continuing towards historic Flatford.
