Lavernock Road, near Penarth
Cosmeston Lakes provides lake and reedbed birdwatching within a country park near Penarth. The quieter west lake includes a conservation area, while public paths and boardwalks give views without entering sensitive wet ground. The council names Teal, Pochard and Shoveler among its winter wildfowl, with other waterbirds present on the lakes in different seasons. A short visit can concentrate on the lakes rather than the whole park. Keep to the public viewing routes and respect conservation boundaries. The separate medieval village is currently closed for private hire, so do not treat that closure as closing the country park.
