For a birding day around Bridgend, Parc Slip’s pools and wetland hides contrast with Kenfig’s freshwater pool, extensive dunes and coastal trails. Parc Slip is a former opencast site now supporting a mosaic of wetland, meadow and woodland. Northern Wetlands public views give a focus for spring Lapwings and winter ducks, while the Mary Gillham raised hide overlooks a separate wader scrape. Meadow paths add Skylark and Meadow Pipit interest without entering the managed breeding grassland. Kenfig offers another setting, with Pochard, Gadwall, Shoveler and other wildfowl on the freshwater pool and reedbed song in spring. The public pool path provides the compact wetland visit; the south-end hide is closed. Green Trail extends into dune grassland and scrub, while the Sker Beach Trail has a separate coastal purpose. These are different routes within Kenfig, not a requirement to walk from pool to shore on every visit. Parc Slip’s hide-based wetland watch and Kenfig’s pool-and-dune landscape give this part of Glamorgan two distinct birding choices.
