Castle upon Alun, near St Bride’s Major
Coed y Bwl is a small ancient woodland in the Alun Valley, well known for its spring wildflowers but also supporting a varied woodland bird community. The Wildlife Trust names Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch and Marsh Tit, with migrant warblers adding summer interest. It is a compact stop for someone already exploring the valley, rather than a large reserve circuit. The current operator page describes the wood as temporarily reopened and retains an ash-dieback warning. Confirm the latest position before travelling and obey any on-site closure signs; the temporary wording does not establish permanent unrestricted access.
