Foxley Wood is an ancient woodland choice for birdsong, broadleaf trees and a walk along open glades. Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Marsh Tit occur here, while Garden Warbler and the declining Spotted Flycatcher add summer interest. Spring flowers make the early part of the year attractive beyond the birds, and butterflies are another reason to linger in the warmer months. This is a place for listening and looking through branches, with a different pace from scanning a coastal scrape. Paths cross the restored woodland from small entrance car parks. Plan the day carefully: the wood is closed on Thursdays and has a shorter visiting day than many open-access commons.
