Holme Bird Observatory brings together sea, dunes, pines, scrub and marsh at a coastal migration watchpoint. The combination makes it an absorbing place to watch ordinary movements as well as occasional autumn visitors. Observation hides and the public coast path offer different outlooks over the surrounding landscape. The operator’s autumn account includes Yellow-browed, Barred and Pallas’s Warblers; these are scarce passage possibilities, so allow time for the habitat as well as a particular bird. Non-members can visit under the published daytime access arrangements.

When to go and where to look

Autumn is the clearest focus at Holme Bird Observatory for the operator's named Yellow-browed, Barred and Pallas's Warblers. These are scarce passage possibilities, not an expected trio on every visit. Combine time watching the scrub and pines from authorised paths with broader sea and marsh views, so the outing remains worthwhile without a rare migrant. Broadwater Road and the Norfolk Coast Path provide the recorded approaches. Several hides are available under the published access arrangements, but the car-park hide needs a members' key. Check those arrangements before choosing a particular viewing position.
