Mill Quarter Bay, near Strangford

Killard occupies a headland on the southern side of the entrance to Strangford Lough, with coastal grassland, scrub and cliffs. DAERA names Fulmar, Sand Martin and Stonechat at the reserve, while its changing wildflower display adds interest from spring into summer. The public approach begins at Mill Quarter Bay and follows the shore, so a visit depends on a safe tide window rather than an unrestricted inland entrance. NI Direct confirms free daily access but warns that rocky shoreline sections can be cut off. Check the tide before travelling and allow for the return approach.
