Arbroath Road, east of Forfar

Murton offers a focused wetland birdwatching visit within a restored former quarry landscape east of Forfar. Three hides and a circular path network overlook its lochs, with Teal, Gadwall and Goldeneye recorded at Murton by the local RSPB group. These records are separate from the group’s later visits to other Angus sites. The nature reserve is free to enter and has different arrangements from the adjoining visitor farm. Plan the walk around the daily car-park closing time; toilets follow the farm and tearoom opening pattern, which is shorter in winter.
