North Pembrokeshire

Pengelli Forest is a National Nature Reserve within a large block of ancient oak woodland in north Pembrokeshire. Its mix of oak, birch and alder, shaded slopes and small streams offers a woodland alternative to the county's better-known coastal birding. The Wildlife Trust names Redstart and Wood Warbler among the woodland birds and Woodcock as a winter visitor. Shorter walks are available near the entrance, while deeper routes pass through muddier and steeper ground. This is an open-access forest rather than a visitor-centre reserve, so choose a walk that fits the terrain and available daylight.
