Rostherne village, near Knutsford

Rostherne Mere is a deep glacial lake with a substantial winter wildfowl interest. The county bird society names Pochard, Shoveler and Tufted Duck among winter arrivals. This entry is specifically for the public village viewpoints and the permissive Wood Bongs path, not unrestricted access around the National Nature Reserve. The society identifies views from the top path and churchyard for visitors without permits. Its observatory has separate permit arrangements and should be organised in advance if required. A public viewing visit can therefore be worthwhile without assuming that private reserve tracks or the waterside hides are open to casual visitors.
