Watton Carrs, near Hutton Cranswick · YO25 9RH
Tophill Low combines two large reservoirs with smaller marshes, ponds, woodland and grassland beside the River Hull. Yorkshire Water provides a network of public hides within this working water-treatment site. An RSPB local group’s June 2026 visit reported Kingfisher, Common Tern and Little Grebe here, including nesting terns and grebe chicks. These are dated observations rather than a promise of the same birds on every visit. The mix of sheltered viewpoints and different waters makes this a practical inland birding outing. Bring lunch: the operator recommends being self-contained because the nearest town is some distance away.
