Small reserve parking area near Fownhope and Woolhope
Wessington Pasture combines an old grassland landscape with hazel woodland and scrub on the Woolhope Dome. Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Treecreeper are individually named in the Trust’s site list. A short visit can focus on the woodland edges and retained mature trees while keeping to a suitable existing route. The reserve is managed through scrub clearance, coppicing and seasonal grazing, so the accessible fields may change with livestock movements. Woodland areas stay wet and muddy in autumn and winter. Large deep holes around the pond can be hidden by summer vegetation and should be avoided.
