Willington
Willington Wetlands is a former gravel quarry in the Trent Valley, now a substantial wetland reserve with public viewing platforms. Derbyshire Wildlife Trust names Sand Martin and Common Tern among its summer birds, with Lapwing also breeding here. The flooded pits attract passage waders and winter wildfowl, giving the reserve interest beyond the summer months. Access is deliberately concentrated on the main track, platforms and hide, allowing visitors to watch without wandering through the wildlife areas. Arrival is from the village on foot: neither the reserve nor Meadow Lane provides visitor parking.
