East-side car park, accessed from Cameron Kirk road
Cameron Reservoir has a complete waterside circuit through contrasting open northern banks and more wooded southern margins. Its wintering Pink-footed Geese give the site international conservation importance, while the SOC also names Reed Bunting and Goldcrest throughout the year. Start from the small car park beside the eastern embankment and watch the open water before choosing how far to walk. This is a separate open-water visit from nearby Bankhead Moss, with different habitat and its own public approach. The southern section is a rougher track, so the full circuit requires more than a level promenade stroll.
When to go and where to look
Winter is the time to make a deliberate visit for Cameron’s Pink-footed Geese. Fife Coast and Countryside Trust identifies the reservoir as an internationally protected wintering-waterfowl site with a large goose population. Begin by watching the open water from the northern side, choosing quiet stops that leave birds undisturbed. The SOC’s existing site list also includes Reed Bunting and Goldcrest throughout the year. A complete circuit is about 2.5 miles, with surfaced northern paths and a rougher southern woodland track; completing it is optional. Use the small east-side parking area reached via Cameron Kirk and account for mud on the less even section.

Getting there: Leave the A915 at Cameron Kirk and follow the reservoir approach to the east-side parking area. The map uses the published parking grid NO479113 from Fife Walking, rather than the reservoir-centre reference. Allow extra time where the southern path becomes muddy and check the operator’s route notices.
