Carron Dam retains a wetland character within a partly drained reservoir near Stenhousemuir. Rich fen, open wet ground and deciduous woodland provide different places to look, with Water Rail named in the Trust’s overview and Bullfinch and Kestrel in its wildlife selection. Birds can remain concealed in the vegetation, so patient watching from the public route suits this site better than trying to follow sounds into the fen. The reserve is very wet and boggy. Its specialist plants are another reason to leave the soft ground intact and use the provided paths.
