Near Llanfihangel Crucorney, Monmouthshire

Coed y Cerrig protects a deep wooded valley north of Abergavenny, with wet alder woodland on the floor and mixed trees on the steep sides. Natural Resources Wales explicitly names wood warbler, pied flycatcher and redstart in its summer wildlife guidance. The wide, level Alder Tree Boardwalk gives access across the wet ground, with passing places and wooden benches. A separate Woodland Climb offers a short but strenuous circuit on rough stone steps and slopes. The boardwalk explores the wet valley floor, while the separate climbing route takes visitors onto the steeper wooded slopes. The boardwalk starts across the road from the small car park; remain on the boardwalk or path because the surrounding mud is soft.
