The Causeway, north of Felmersham
Felmersham Gravel Pits offers a wetland walk through a landscape created by former gravel extraction near the Great Ouse. Open water is bordered by reeds, willow, woodland and wildflower grassland, providing several different edges to watch. The Wildlife Trust names Great Crested Grebe, Teal and Tufted Duck on the lakes, without assigning individual seasons to them. Follow the established public paths from the Causeway car park and take time over the sheltered margins. The site’s varied water and grassland habitats also make it a useful place to compare birds with the changing conditions around the pits.
