Norley, beside Delamere Forest
Hatchmere is a glacial lake bordered by fen, wet woodland and wet heath at the edge of Delamere Forest. The Wildlife Trust names Great Crested Grebe, Reed Bunting and Willow Warbler on the reserve, making the mere and its fringes a useful short wetland stop. Water can be viewed from Delamere Road, while a public footpath off Ashton Road enters the reserve. Keep to these routes: deep boggy pools occur among the vegetation and the angling platforms include private areas. Neither the nearby pub car park nor the lakeside grass should be treated as general reserve parking.
