Milner Lane, near Bardsey and Scarcroft
Hetchell Wood combines ancient woodland, a beck and adjoining meadow habitats north-east of Leeds. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust lists summer Blackcap, autumn Treecreeper and winter Nuthatch and Tawny Owl, giving its public paths a clear woodland birding focus across seasons. The setting includes varied old trees and geological features, with quieter moments available away from the busiest route sections. Public and permissive paths provide the access, but the reserve is not suitable for wheelchairs. Wear footwear for wet ground and keep dogs on short leads, particularly where cattle or sheep are grazing the meadows.
