Mantles Heath Wood approach, near Daventry
High Wood and Meadow provides a compact woodland-and-grassland visit near Daventry. The ancient wood has wild cherry and a long history of coppicing, while the adjoining meadow supports a different set of plants and open edges. Buzzard, Cuckoo and Fieldfare are named in the Trust’s exact-site species list; the list does not assign individual seasons, so no seasonal promise is made here. Start using the published Mantles Heath Wood parking approach and follow the wood edge towards the first gateway. Woodland paths are mostly firm, but the meadow has uneven ground and rabbit burrows.
