River Lea corridor between Hertford and Ware
King’s Meads is a broad wetland-and-grassland reserve between Hertford and Ware, threaded by waterways and public paths. The Wildlife Trust names Sedge Warbler as a vocal summer resident, Little Egret among autumn highlights and Shoveler using the pools and ditches in winter. The changes between meadow, reeds and open water make a slow walk more useful than rushing across the whole site. Access is from the River Lea towpath and documented public entrances, with separate town parking options. Wet grass paths can become very muddy, and the southern chalk bank is steeper than the meadows.

Getting there: The pin marks the published Broadmeads public car park reference, providing a town arrival rather than a point inside wetland habitat. The Trust describes Broadmeads access from Amwell End Road near Ware station. Join the public towpath and signed reserve entrances from the Ware side; check local parking restrictions.
