Muddy Lane, Thatcham · RG19 3FU
Thatcham Reedbeds combines reed and fen habitats with lake-side routes from the Nature Discovery Centre. The county bird club names summer Reed and Sedge Warblers, alongside Water Rail throughout the year. Choose the route before leaving the centre: the reedbed approach is more challenging and wetter than the paths beside the lake, and it requires a railway crossing. Waymarked walks let you choose a shorter family visit or a longer circuit towards the canal. Follow any temporary ash-dieback work closures and use the permitted paths. The main visitor car park has a locking time, even though the reserve itself is open at all times.
