West of Dunkeld
The Hermitage gives a riverside and woodland birding walk beside the River Braan near Dunkeld. The National Trust for Scotland's site-specific wildlife guide names Dipper, Grey Heron and Grey Wagtail, adding a birdwatching focus to the well-known trees and waterfalls. Follow the established woodland paths and look towards the river from safe viewing places rather than descending onto slippery rocks. The current visitor guidance warns against queuing on the A9 when parking is full. It also notes that wedding bookings can temporarily close Ossian's Hall and other areas, so check arrangements for the intended route.
