Calvert, east of Bicester

Calvert Jubilee is a former clay extraction site whose lake and engineered shallows now provide a focused wetland birdwatching stop. The Wildlife Trust identifies wintering Pochard and Tufted Duck, with Kingfishers also recorded at the reserve. Public hides overlook the water and allow a visit centred on the lake rather than a long circuit. HS2 construction has changed the practical approach: the eastern access from Werner Terrace is unsafe and closed. The Trust currently directs visitors to the hides from Gawcott Road. Do not assume that older maps showing the eastern approach still describe an available entrance.
