Aviemore

Craigellachie's birch woods provide a contrasting visit beside Aviemore, with lochans, glades and slopes rising above the town. NatureScot names spring Wood Warbler and Willow Warbler, while Buzzard is described over the woods. Four public trails allow a choice between a short woodland session and a longer climb towards the viewpoint. Give the canopy time: calls and small movements can reveal birds that a quick scan misses. Enter by the signed youth-hostel approach and the subway under the A9. The track is rough, muddy or steep in places, so choose the walking plan to fit the group.
