Upper Lough Erne, near Newtownbutler

Crom combines ancient woodland and wet grassland with the sheltered shores of Upper Lough Erne. The National Trust identifies Grey Heron fishing near the White Bridge and Boat House, with Fieldfare and Redwing using the estate in winter. A public bird hide on Derrymacrow Lough adds a purpose-built place to watch loughside vegetation from a raised platform. The hide, woodland and castle grounds offer different settings within the same estate visit. Start at the visitor-centre arrival and choose a public route suited to conditions; some trails are gravelled and uneven despite the accessible options available.
