Greenan Road car park and shore, Doonfoot, Ayr
Doonfoot and Greenan form one established coastal birdwatching stretch between the River Doon mouth and Greenan Castle. Mudflats, rocks and mussel beds attract waders, with Lapwing and Golden Plover in autumn and winter and Goldeneye offshore in winter. The county bird club publishes the council’s birdwatching description with permission, including public shore approaches. Use the Greenan Road arrival and scan from established ground or the coastal path. There is no need to climb to the ruined castle or approach roosting birds closely to enjoy this part of Ayr Bay.

Getting there: Begin at the public Greenan Road car park, which the map pin locates. Use the established shore and cycle-path approaches and allow for the tide. The independent castle coordinate is a location cross-check only, not a recommendation to visit the ruin.
