Duddingston, Edinburgh
Duddingston Loch sits below Arthur's Seat at the southern edge of Holyrood Park. Public north-shore viewpoints give access to a natural freshwater loch with reedbeds and woodland, while the southern Bawsinch reserve has restricted access. The RSPB Edinburgh guide names Great Crested Grebe and occasional Kingfisher; the SOC account also names breeding Grey Heron. A visit should stay with the publicly accessible shore rather than treating the key-controlled reserve hide as an ordinary facility. Road closures within Holyrood Park affect driving approaches, so check current access before travelling and use the signed car-park arrangements.
