Erraid Wood occupies steep ground on the north-eastern edge of the Pentland Hills. Its mature broadleaved trees support woodland birds, with Spotted Flycatcher and Treecreeper named in the overview and Yellowhammer in the wildlife selection. The Trust also highlights views towards East Lothian and the Firth of Forth, giving the walk a wider landscape setting. Approach from the small roadside parking area and climb towards the woodland entrance. Birdwatching should follow that established approach, taking time to look through the canopy without assuming that all of the wooded slope is a prepared route.
