Wayland Wood is an ancient broadleaf wood with coppiced hazel, glades and rides near Watton. A spring walk brings both woodland flowers and birdsong, making it an appealing inland stop for visitors who enjoy listening as much as watching. NWT’s birdwatching guide names Nuthatch, Coal Tit, Treecreeper and Great Spotted Woodpecker, with Willow Warbler among the summer birds. The circular route and connecting rides allow an unhurried exploration without seeking out any nesting place. Bluebells and other woodland plants add interest beneath the trees, while autumn changes the woodland again. Allow for muddy paths and take care at the car-park entrance beside the fast road.
