Newton Tony · SP4 0HE
Winterbourne Downs is a restored chalk-country landscape near Newton Tony, where former arable fields are becoming flower-rich grassland. Skylark, Lapwing, Yellowhammer, Linnet and Grey Partridge benefit from the mix of open ground and hedgerows. Two marked loops offer different lengths for an unhurried farmland-bird walk, and the entrance has a wide view across the reserve. Keep to the public visitor routes and watch from the established screens without approaching breeding birds. The meadows also support abundant insects and butterflies, adding interest when birds are quiet during the middle of a summer day.
