Pewsey, Wiltshire

Jones’s Mill is a spring-fed fen beside the Salisbury Avon at Pewsey. Kingfisher, snipe and grey heron are named by the Trust among the wildlife using its wet habitats. Alder carr, ponds and tussock sedge create a different birding setting from the surrounding downland. Two waymarked loops offer a shorter fen visit or a longer route through orchard and meadow. This is genuinely wet ground: the Trust warns of boggy paths and flooding, especially in winter. Livestock grazing helps keep the fen open. The documented public approach crosses the railway bridge on Dursden Lane to the small parking area beside the entrance.
