West of Epworth, Isle of Axholme · DN9 1EA

Epworth Turbary brings together former peat workings, woodland and wet ground on the Isle of Axholme. The Trust records Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Tree Pipit among the breeding birds. Follow the waymarked route through the part of the reserve opened for visitors, using the hides where available. The varied ground is part of the appeal, but it also makes this a walking visit that needs suitable footwear. Winter flooding can affect the route and the operator does not describe the reserve as wheelchair accessible. A public parking area provides a realistic starting point; follow the current waymarks rather than assuming all peat-worked ground can be explored.
