B1400 opposite Scallow Grove Farm, Messingham · DN17 3RD

Messingham Sand Quarry combines a series of lagoons with woodland, grassland and a small patch of heath south of Messingham. Its birdwatching hides and mown circuit make it a useful place to settle into a slow wetland visit. Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust lists Wigeon, Teal and Tufted Duck among its birds, without giving individual seasons in this profile. Look across more than one pool before moving into the wooded section, where the footing can change. The reserve has an identifiable road entrance and small car park, but the approach needs care because the B1400 is a fast road.
