Whelford road between Fairford and Lechlade
Whelford Pools is a former gravel-working site now managed for freshwater wildlife. Pochard, Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting are named on the Trust’s reserve list, while hides and a viewing screen let visitors watch without entering the restricted wildlife areas. Begin at the small reserve car park and follow the public paths to the watching places. This is a separate managed reserve from nearby Roundhouse Lake, with its own lake setting and visitor arrival. Some paths become uneven after rain, and wildlife refuges remain outside the visitor route even when the reserve is open.
